Age Stasis

Poem by Joey Wańczyk

Maybe it was then I knew

I would never feel the same

After our mornings in the basement,

The midnights with our shadowmen

Running alongside us on golf hills

Through sprinkler alarms,

Or white lights flooding the yard.

Maybe it was then I knew

Your face – I knew your face once

In an age stasis of heaven.

One hand held the wind

And I kissed you then

And our tongues

Made a holy hymn.
